Step-parents seem to get bad raps?in life as well as in fiction ? the most notable is the wicked stepmother in Cinderella. Twenty plus years in practice, however, has convinced me that most step-parents are the folks who ? step up? for the kids in their lives. They provide nurturing, security, love, and role model good parenting when a kid?s example in parenting?may be?lacking. Steps unconditionally accept the child as their own child deserving of the very best that the step has to offer. Kids do great when they know that there is at least one person in their lives who love them unconditionally.?Here?s to under appreciated step-parents? three cheers for all you do!
